Welcome Proctors!
Lingco is excited to be hosting the 2024-2025 National German Exam (NGE)! We’ve created a modern online educational platform designed to help instructors more effectively teach students foreign languages, and we believe this is a perfect fit for national exams like the NGE. We’re doing everything we can to make the exam this year as smooth as possible, and we’ve created this guide to walk proctors through the process of using Lingco to administer the exam.
Prepare for the Exam
Review AATG’s Security Guidelines
The exam proctor is responsible for conducting the exam in strict compliance with the outlined procedures and for maintaining complete security of all exam materials. The exam proctor should read these guidelines thoroughly before administering the exam.
- Knowledge of German is not required for the administration of the exam. The NGE may be administered under the direct supervision of the German teacher or other certified teacher, or the school's testing, guidance, or administrative staff. A student’s private tutor may also administer the exam if there is no German offered in the student’s school. Parents/guardians cannot serve as proctors.
- Lingco can track students’ focus while students are taking the exam. Specifically, if a student visits another website or uses his/her time on each question incoherently, the system will send us a warning. Lingco provides a security report to NGE administration with these findings at the end of the administration period. NGE administrators will review the data generated by the student and if any suspicious behavior is detected, AATG reserves the right to investigate the matter by reaching out to the exam proctor for more information. AATG reserves the right to disqualify a student for dishonesty.
- A SECRET CODE is needed to access the exam. A default SECRET CODE is set by Lingco and is unique to each proctor and each level exam. The proctor has the ability to change the default SECRET CODE to whatever secret password they would like. This allows instructors to accommodate situations where one group of students may be taking the exam in the morning, and others in the afternoon. Once the exam is started, the instructor can change the code for the next group of students. The SECRET CODE is NOT to be given to the students until they have logged into the exam on exam day.

Review Lingco’s Technical Requirements
Lingco is a modern web-based application that works best with the latest version of Google Chrome, running on a laptop or desktop computer (either Mac, PC or Chromebook). It also works on the last two versions of Safari, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, but Chrome is highly recommended. The activities used in the NGE are designed for larger screens, so we don’t support using any mobile device or tablet at this time.
In order to take the NGE on Lingco you’ll also need:
- A stable internet connection with at least 4 Mbps download and 512 Kbps upload speeds
- A screen size of at least 1280 x 720 pixels
- Functioning speakers or headphones connected to your laptop or desktop

❗ Note: Certain school network components, such as VPNs and firewalls, can impact the quality of audio and video files in Lingco. Please discuss this with your network administrator if you discover such issues when testing out the Lingco platform before taking the NGE.
